Overview

Youtube Bullet Summary is a browser extension that generates AI-powered bullet summaries of YouTube videos. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Chrome Web Store Privacy Disclosure

The developer declares that Youtube Bullet Summary:

• Does not collect or use your data. The extension does not collect any personal information, browsing data, or usage analytics.
• Does not sell your data to third parties, outside of the approved use cases.
• Does not use or transfer your data for purposes unrelated to the item's core functionality. The only data processing is sending YouTube subtitle text to the AI API you configure, solely to generate video summaries.
• Does not use or transfer your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Data Handled by the Extension

The extension processes two types of data, both strictly for its core functionality:

• Subtitle text — Captured from YouTube videos you watch. This text is sent only to the AI API endpoint you configure in the extension settings, solely for the purpose of generating a summary. It is never sent to the extension developer or any other party.
• User settings — Your display preferences, prompt configuration, and cached summaries are stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device.

Data NOT Collected

The extension does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

• Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
• Analytics or usage telemetry
• Tracking data or cookies
• Browsing history
• Account credentials (no account is required)
• Any data used for advertising, profiling, or credit assessment

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. This storage is:

• Local to your browser profile
• Never synced to the cloud
• Never transmitted to the extension developer or any third party
• Cleared when you uninstall the extension

API Keys & Free Tier

Your AI API keys are:

• Stored locally in chrome.storage.local
• Transmitted only to the API endpoint you specify, over HTTPS
• Never sent to the extension developer or any other party

Note on "Slow Model (Free)": If you use the default free model provided with the extension, your subtitle data is sent directly to the AI provider (Portkey AI) over HTTPS to generate a summary. No personal data is logged or stored.

Third-Party Services

The extension communicates with the AI API provider you explicitly configure (e.g., OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek). When using the default Free Model, requests are sent directly to Portkey AI. No other third-party services are contacted.

Permissions Justification

• storage — Required to save your settings, cached summaries, and model configurations locally.
• sidePanel — Required to display the configuration interface as a browser side panel.
• Host permissions (youtube.com) — Required to inject the content script that captures subtitle data and displays the summary overlay on YouTube pages.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
